FROM THE VALLEY
DHULIKHEL

This scenic and ancient town inhabited by the Newar community is
situated 30 km to the east of Kathmandu. On a clear day visitors
can enjoy the panoramic view of the Himalayas, from Mt. Manaslu in
the west to Mt. Everest in the east. An early morning departure is
recommended to see the spectacular sunrise and a clear view of the
fine mountains. A half an hour drive to Panauti, beautiful ancient
town with numerous temples and magnificent woodcarving is
suggested.
NAGARKOT (4
hours early morning or afternoon for sunrise/sunset)
This is a popular tourist resort situated 32 km to the east of
Kathmandu at an altitude of 2,175 m. The panoramic view of the
eastern Himalayas, including Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) can be seen
from here. There are many well-furnished resort hotels with modern
amenities for the overnight traveler. One can plan an early
morning sunrise drive and return to continue other tour program in
the city. One can also choose to visit Changu Narayan a half an
hour drive en route to Kathmandu, which is one of the oldest
temples built by Man Dev in the 5th century A.D.
KAKANI
(4 hours early morning)
Situated at a height of 1982 m. and located 29 km to the northwest
of Kathmandu city, Kakani commands a magnificent view of the
Kathmandu valley, the northern Himalayan mountain ranges and
features beautiful alpine scenery.
DAKSHINKALI (4
hours, morning Saturday and Tuesday only, 25 km far)
Each Saturday and Tuesday, the Goddess Kali is offered a sacrifice
of buffaloes chickens and goats at temples, which dates back
centuries. After witnessing this spectacle, the tour stops at
Chovar, the site where the famous tantric Sage Manjushree is said
to have cut through the hill to drain the legendary lake, which
once filled the Kathmandu valley. One can also choose to visit
Kirtipur instead, which is a small town with old shrines and
temples and people working on ancient looms dressed in old
traditional costumes.
