Visa Information for the Tourists


Visa: Visa can be obtained from Royal Nepal Embassies or Consulates or any entry points in Nepal.

Visa Extension: A tourist visa can be extended from the immigration department and Pokhara immigration office for a total of 120 days. Additional 30 days’ visa may be granted on reasonable grounds from the department. Over the course of a visa year a tourist can not stay in Nepal for more than 150 days.

Visa Fee Exemption : Children below 10 years.
Visa Extension Fee : US$ 50 for 30 days.


AIRPORT TAX

Airport tax of Rs. 1,100 per passenger is levied on international flights and Rs. 165 on domestic sector.

CUSTOMS

Customs formalities for tourists usually require only an oral declaration. Dutiable goods should be declared so that items are entered into passport to ensure re-export. Narcotics, arms and ammunitions are prohibited. Goods of antique value, furs and hides are to be declared at customs on departure. Dutiable goods such as camera with 12 plates or 5 rolls of films, one bottle of liquor, 200 cigarettes and camping equipment are allowed free of duty.


HEALTH

There are no health restrictions for entrance into Nepal, but we recommend immunization for smallpox, cholera, and typhoid.


CURRENCY

Tourists other than Indians are not allowed to import Indian currency; otherwise there is no restriction on the amount and type of money brought in. Foreign currency exchange transactions are to be entered in the currency declaration form provided. Unused Nepalese currency up to 10% of the exchanged amount may be reconverted to foreign currency on departure.


FUND

For trekkers and guests wishing to spend long period in Nepal are advised to use credit card to ensure adequacy of fund. Especially trekkers and those visiting HEV may need fund when they have to be rescued due to high altitude sickness.


INSURANCE

We strongly recommend that you purchase a personal travel insurance policy prior to the commencement of your tour, as policies available in Nepal may not be adequate.


TOUR PRICE

The published prices are usually valid from October to May, or as may be specified in each quotation. Prices are subject to revision in the event of currency fluctuation, changes in airfares, hotel rates, local taxes, fuel costs etc., of which we shall endeavor to inform you of the changes well in advance. The tour price does not include laundry, room service, unspecified meals and beverages, airport taxes, tips and other items of a personal nature.


BOOKING CONDITIONS

All correspondence may be addressed to us. Usually full payment with a copy of your voucher or tour order is required, unless other arrangements have been agreed. Reservation should be made as early as possible to ensure confirmed bookings. A cancellation charge equal to ten percent will be levied for reservation cancelled less than 15 days prior to arrival. The cancellation charges for 3 to 10 days prior to arrival will be 50 percent. No refunds are made for booking of less than3 days.

We act as agents to transport companies, hotels and other services through reputed concerns. While exercising our duties with greatest possible care and attention, we can not be held responsible for any loss, injury, accident, damage, delay or other incidents for which the aforesaid companies or persons are liable or due to negligence of the guest, and other causes such as weather and strikes that are beyond the control of the Agent. We also reserve the right to alter the tour program and itinerary in consultation with the guests or the booking office if we see it absolutely necessary, or in the case of force majeure.

BY AIR

Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu is the only international airport in Nepal. Regular plane connection operate from Abudhabi, Amsterdam, Bangkok, Calcutta, Delhi, Dhaka, Doha, Dubai, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Karachi, Lhasa, London, Moscow, Mumbai, Osaka, Paris, Paro, Patna, Shanghai, Singapore, Varanasi and Vienna. The international airlines operating their flights into Kathmandu are - Aeroflot, Lauda air (Austrian Airlines), Biman Bangladesh Airlines, China South West Airlines, Druk Air, Gulf Air, Indian Airlines, Pakistan International Airlines, Quatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways International, Transavia and some private charter carriers. Royal Nepal Airlines is the national flag carrier of Nepal, which has both domestic and international flights.


BY LAND

Tourists visiting Nepal overland may enter through a number of entry points along the border. The main points are Kodari, in Nepal-China border and Kakarvitta, Biratnagar, Birjung, Sunauli, Nepalgunj, Dhangadi, Mahendra Nagar along the Nepal - Indian border. One must possess an international carnet with their vehicle to enter Nepal by road.


GENERAL INFORMATION

Location : Nepal is a landlocked country situated between India and China. It is surrounded by India in the south, east and west and Tibetan autonomous region of China to the north. Latitude 26o - 22 N to 30o - 27 N and longitude 80o - 4 E to 88o - 12 E. 885 km long (East-West) and 193 km wide (North-South).

Altitude : Varies from 70m heights on the Southern plains to 8848 m. Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha).

Area : 147,181 sq. kilometers which can be divided in three different parallel belts e.g., snowy Himalayas in the north, mountains in the middle, Gangetic plains in the south.

Capital : Kathmandu

Population : Nepal has a population of more than 23 million composed of 40 ethnic groups over 70 spoken languages and dialects. Hinduism (86.5%) and Buddhism (7.8%) are major religions practiced in harmony with other smaller beliefs.

Political System : Multiparty democracy with constitutional monarchy.

Language : Nepali is official language. English is also understood among educated and tourism oriented people.

Climate : The country has a great variety of topography, which is reflected in the diversity of weather and climate. A visit to Nepal is possible year round, but Mountain flight, Jungle Safari excursions; Rafting and Trekking are advised from October to May only. Nepal has four major seasons; winter (December - February), spring (March - May), summer (June - August), autumn (September - November) Climate ranges from Tropical in the low lands to Arctic in higher altitudes.

What to wear : Casual wear with warm garments during October - March. Umbrella or Raincoat is a must in rainy season June - August.

Local Currency : Nepal has Rupees notes of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 and coins of 10, 25, 50, 100 paisa and Rs. 2 and Rs. 5. 100 paisa make one rupee.

Water : In Kathmandu boiled and filtered water as well as mineral water is available in most of the hotels and restaurants. Elsewhere it is advised to use mineral water, water sterilization tablets or stick to boiled water, tea and soft drinks.

Electricity : 220 Volts/50 Cycles.
