Introduction

NEPAL: Nestled among the world's highest mountains with enchanting valleys and landscapes, crystal clear waters, remarkable flora and wildlife, Nepal is a country of amazing beauty and natural diversity. Land of the living Goddess, the birth place of Lord Buddha - Apostle of peace; and being the only Hindu kingdom in the world, it is a living cultural museum with exquisite architecture and elegant craftsmanship in bronze, stone and wood - carving. The different races and tribes of people with their separate colorful customs, languages and dialects offer yet another attraction to the visitor. A remarkable culture is the closeness with which the two major religions, Buddhism and Hinduism co-exist and are practiced along with other less followed beliefs such as Muslim, Christianity and Jainism.
There is something for everyone to see here in Nepal.

Sightseeing and excursions

The Kathmandu Valley has an exotic setting surrounded by high mountains. It covers an area of 218 sq. miles situated at 1310m heights. Three main cities of historical and cultural identity Kathmandu, Lalitpur or Patan and Bhaktapur city lie here. Durbar area of all these ancient cities along with Pashupatinath, Changunarayan, Bouddhanath, Swayambhunath and Lumbini (the birth place of Buddha) are listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

The most popular sightseeing in Kathmandu is to spend time walking through the narrow street bazaars lined with shops where goods of many varieties can be found. Jewellry items, reflection of one of the major characteristics of Nepali culture, semiprecious gems in intricate setting, carpets of Tibetan and other designs, statues, masks, and rich carvings of the Newar craftsmen are sold. We suggest a Kathmandu valley sightseeing tour early in your visit to familiarize you with the people, the main market and temples so that you may explore them in more depth at your leisure.
